Friday the 13th is a notoriously spooky date. Perfect for English post-punk icons Echo & The Bunnymen to perform their first two albums, Crocodiles and Heaven Up Here – both dark, moody masterpieces.

Photographer’s Notes

This was a very challenging shoot. There was abundant clean, white backlighting with lots of smoke and zero front lighting. Sounds strange but this was the darkest bright lighting I’ve ever seen. I tried to catch the occasional strobe blasts but mostly resigned to making silhouettes by exposing for the backlights.

On a personal note, Crocodiles is one of my all-time favorite albums and it was thrilling to hear live. Ian McCulloch’s voice was strong as ever and the band sounded amazing.
