Valdimar is Icelandic for ‘strong ocean’. It’s an apt name for a band that sounds like a powerful force of nature.
Photographer’s Notes
Over the summer, I had the unique opportunity to catch Valdimar play at a tiny bar in Húsavík–a small fishing town in the north of Iceland. I was blown away by their energetic performance, and especially impressed with crooner Valdimar Guðmundsson (for whom the band is named) and guitar wizard Ásgeir Aðalsteinsson. I eagerly anticipated their performance on the big stage at Airwaves.
This set was bathed mostly in hot light and I still love these shots. Never thought I’d say that. My exposure was about 1/200 and f/3.5 at ISO 1600.
End Notes
Valdimar’s amazing 2010 debut release, Undraland, is a personal favorite. Enjoy their hit single “Yfirgefinn” here and buy their album via Gogoyoko
